Perioperative Care with Torus
Prepare your body and support your mind. This is care for the whole person.
Perioperative care informed by more than 30 years in anesthesiology.
Torus was founded by Dr. Shari Samson, a board-certified anesthesiologist with more than three decades of clinical experience. After spending her career caring for patients through surgery and other high-acuity medical experiences, Dr. Samson saw an opportunity to expand what perioperative care could include.
Preparing for surgery isn't only about labs, medications, and medical clearance. Your mental health, sleep, pain, nutrition, and the state of your nervous system all matter. At Torus, we address these often-overlooked dimensions of surgical preparation and recovery through personalized, evidence-informed care.

A personalized itinerary by Torus
Your perioperative plan may include:
Integrative Medical Consultation and Follow-ups
A comprehensive review of your medical history, medications, upcoming procedure, symptoms, lifestyle, and individual needs to establish a thoughtful plan for perioperative care and healing.
Mental Health Support
Support for anxiety, fear, stress, grief, body image concerns, previous medical trauma, or other emotions that can emerge before and after surgery.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy
For appropriate patients, medically supervised KAP may be incorporated to address depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic pain, or psychological distress surrounding an upcoming procedure and during recovery.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture may be used to support relaxation, nervous system regulation, pain management, and overall wellbeing before surgery and during healing.
Nutrition
Individualized nutritional guidance can help support the body's needs as you prepare for surgery and recovery.
Evaluation & Surgical Clearance
When appropriate, our medical team can provide perioperative evaluation and required documentation for surgical clearance and healing.

Who May Benefit?
Perioperative integrative care may be particularly valuable if you are:
- Experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, PTSD, or other mental health challenges
- Managing chronic or complex pain
- Preparing for cancer-related, elective, or reconstructive surgery
- Navigating women's health, gynecologic, reproductive, or hormonal changes
- Processing changes to your body, fertility, function, or identity
- Living with the effects of a previous difficult or traumatic medical experience
- Looking for more comprehensive support during surgical recovery
Like the Torus, this care comes full circle.
The torus represents continuous movement outward and back toward center. We see healing much the same way. Surgery represents one moment in your medical journey, and our goal is to help you move through it feeling prepared, supported, and connected to your health as a whole.
Prepare with intention. Recover with support. Return to yourself.
