What to Expect

Step 1: Initial Consultation & Medical Intake

We begin with a comprehensive evaluation of your history and goals. Our team will answer your questions, determine if KAP is right for you, and create a personalized care plan.

Step 2: Preparation Session

Before your first medicine session, we help you prepare mentally and emotionally by exploring your intentions, answering questions, and creating a foundation for a meaningful experience.

Step 3: Ketamine Session

Your medicine session takes place in a private, supportive setting with clinical guidance throughout. We monitor your vitals and provide thoughtful care as you move through your unique experience.

Step 4: Integration

Healing continues after the medicine session. Integration helps you process your experience, understand insights, and bring meaningful change into daily life. It is an essential part of the work.

Step 5: Follow-Up & Maintenance

After your initial treatment series, we review your progress and determine the next steps together. Whether you complete care or continue with maintenance, your plan is guided by your needs and goals.

Repeat sessions are not a failure of the treatment; healing and support look different for everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is KAP safe?

Yes. Ketamine has a long history of safe medical use, and Dr. Samson brings decades of experience administering it as an anesthesiologist. At Torus, every patient is carefully screened and monitored to ensure treatment is appropriate and safe.

What is the difference between IM Ketamine, IV Ketamine, and Spravato?

IM ketamine is administered into the muscle and IV ketamine is delivered intravenously, through an infusion, allowing for more tailored dosing strategies. Both strategies are effective and safe.
Spravato is an FDA-approved, self-administered nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression and is often covered by insurance. The treatment is administered in our clinic. We help determine the best option based on your needs, history, and goals.

How many sessions will I need?

Most patients begin with a series of six to eight sessions alongside integration support. Every person responds differently, so we monitor progress and adjust care based on your needs. Maintenance sessions may be recommended for ongoing support.

Does insurance cover KAP?

Injectable ketamine (IM and IV) is currently a cash-pay service and is not covered by insurance. Your medical consultations and therapy sessions may be covered if you are in-network and depending on your plan.
Spravato (esketamine) is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression and forms of major depressive disorder. Most major insurance plans offer coverage. We can help verify your benefits and guide you through your options.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required for an initial consultation. Bring your current medication list and any relevant records from your providers. With your permission, we can coordinate care with your existing mental health team. Ask us about our collaborative mental health program.

How does ketamine work differently from conventional antidepressants?

By targeting the glutamate system and supporting neuroplasticity, it may provide a new path forward when other treatments have fallen short.

What if nothing has worked for me before?

Ketamine offers a different approach for those who have not found relief through traditional treatments. By working through the glutamate system, instead of the serotonin system like most antidepressant, and by upporting neuroplasticity, it may provide a new path forward when other options have fallen short.

Can I drive myself home?

No. You will need a responsible adult to drive you home after every ketamine session. Please plan accordingly. We will confirm this at the time of scheduling.

Driving is not permitted for the rest of the day following your treatment.
